New Sunday Series and Tuesday Evening Study Group

The Journey of the Heart

Starts Sunday 21 February 2010

Lent marks a time of inner reflection and renewal. It is a time for letting go and discovering new avenues of blessings. Most of all, lent is a time of preparation for spiritual resurrection and transformation.
As you focus on spiritual practices – reading, meditating, studying, forgiving, letting go - you are preparing yourself for something very special, something only you can invite into your life.
The ultimate goal of the Lenten season is leaving behind the old and accepting,
celebrating and rejoicing in the new.
We invite you to become “new,” to let go of old ideas and ways of being and to
completely accept yourself as a beloved child of god.
The book that forms the foundation for this series is Spiritual Liberation: Fulfilling Your Soul’s Potential by Michael Bernard Beckwith.
The Book: Preorders with payment for the book, will be taken in the bookstore.
The bookstore will be offering a 10% discount on this book for the duration of the series/study group (until Sunday 28 March). Books will be available in the Bookstore on Sunday 21 February.

Study Group on Tuesday Nights – 23 February

In order to deepen the teachings, a companion book study/spiritual practice group will meet on Tuesday evenings, starting 23 February until 30 March, from 7:00pm until 8:30pm in Fellowship Hall.
Facilitated by Rev. Jill; Love Offering accepted.

Sign-up for class at the Information Table in the Bookstore.

 New Four Week Class

Embracing the Bible – Introduction to Bible Interpretation

12:30pm – 2:30pm -  Sundays 21, 28 February and 7, 14 March
Sanctuary

More than any other book, the Bible is revered around the world by millions of people.  Although these individuals come from many different religious backgrounds and schools of thought, they all find value in these scriptures that were written so very long ago. As you will learn in this course, Unity’s approach to the Bible is very unique and specialized.

Unity’s perspective is that there is much more to the Bible than immediately meets the eye.  Rather than just taking it at face value, we choose to see a practical side to the Bible that we can apply today in our own lives.  What makes the Bible so important to us are the metaphysical meanings that underlie the words on the page.  For us, people, places, and events in the Bible represent ideas and states of consciousness within each individual. This distinctive way of viewing the Bible is often not included in traditional Bible study.

This class covers the very basics of Unity’s Bible Interpretation. It is offered as a ten-hour elective in Unity’s SEE program, with the completion of the course requirements. Facilitated by Rev. Jill Andrews. Love offering accepted.

If you have a copy of the Bible – NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) – bring it with you.

New Daytime Class

The Truth of Joel Goldsmith

using the book Practicing the Presence by Joel Goldsmith

Thursday mornings: 10:30am until Noon

Starts Thursday 25 February 2010

Join a group of daytime Truth students as we study the teachings of Joel Goldsmith with the book
Practicing the Presence: The Inspirational Guide to Regaining Meaning and a Sense of Purpose in Your Life.
Joel lived from 1892 to 1964. He was a great mystical teacher, author and healer.
In 1947, he gained national recognition with the publication of his book, The Infinite Way,

which came about as a result of Joel’s many years of study and meditation, his healing work, and
the spiritual revelations that came to him during the course of his lifetime.

He went on to write numerous books on mysticism and mystical living.

He lectured on these revelations widely throughout the world.

The Book: Preorders, with payment for the book, will be taken in the bookstore.
The bookstore will be offering a 10% discount on this book for participants of the study group (until Sunday 28 March). Books will be available in the bookstore on Sunday 21 February.

Five Basic Principles of Unity

1. There is only one God. God is absolute good, omnipresent (always present) and omnipotent (all-powerful).

2. God is Spirit. Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good also. God is neither male nor female, but is Spirit and resides in everything (people, animals, trees, soil, and even the air we breathe). God is present in all people, not just some. Jesus Christ obtained the fullest expression of God. He is the example, not the exception.

3. Thought dictates action. Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.

4. Prayer is a direct link to God. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good.

5. Daily practice. Knowing and understanding the laws of life--also called the Truth--are not enough. A person must also live the truth that he or she knows.
